Ok, so it’s time for me to get on my soapbox!

Look, let’s remove all the hyperbole and the political mudslinging and look at the situation as it stands.   When I heard that former PC Provincial Party Leader Patrick Brown had resigned his leadership over allegations of sexual misconduct I was hardly shocked.  It’s likely one of the worst-kept secrets in Barrie (PB’s home riding) that he’s a sleaze-ball in the bars and spends WAY too much money on printing for his propaganda.  When he was selected as the leader of the Provincial PC Party I groaned, rolled my eyes and said we’ll that’ll keep me off the PC bandwagon.

Now that the allegations are out, I see people asking “if everyone in Barrie knew why did they elect him?”  I can only answer with “some people suck”.  Rob Ford was elected and he was a drug-addicted slimeball who made fun of driving drunk and all around acted like an ass.  President Trump will “grab ‘em by the pussy” and he’s got one of the most powerful positions in the world.   People don’t care what happens to “others” as long as their own selfish needs are being met, it really is that simple.

So, the right-wingers and majority of scared males start with the “it’s the liberals doing this” … wow, that’d be a neat trick, but I honestly don’t think Kathleen Wynne is smart enough to pull this off.  The stories were genuine and heartfelt (something Wynne isn’t).  Then the … why did they wait 10 years?  Because until very recently the women coming forward were revictimized by victim blaming. 

“Why did the girls drink?” – because they were at a bar, that’s what you do.

“Why didn’t they say no?” – well, they actually did, very clearly.

“Why aren’t the police investigating?” – because sexual misconduct is not a crime, it’s a standard of conduct that we hold people in power too.  He was older, able to buy them drinks, give them jobs, have power over them and he used that.  He shouldn’t have, it was wrong.  This goes beyond single horny guy trying to get some, this is someone who plans to live their lives in the public eye as a leader, and a leader needs to be held to the highest standard.  When we don’t do that, we end up with President Trump!

Is Patrick Brown the worst sexual monster in the world?  Of course not, but he’s more than just a guy who gets shot down at bars, he uses his standing and power to try to get sexual acts out of young women, and that is simply wrong.

The Trump Effect

Today has been exhausting.  I purposely stayed off the internet last night during the US 2016 Federal election because I didn’t think I could handle seeing how close the race was.  You know, because they were saying Hillary had a 90% chance of winning.  Nobody was going to elect this misogynist, homophobic, sexist, racist hate and fear monger right?  Right?  I’ll just wake up in the morning to hear that the USA has elected its first woman President.

And then it’s the end of the world as we know it.  WTeverlovingF ‘Merica?  Please tell me I’m still dreaming, that I’m now ridiculously late for work because I’m having this horrible nightmare where the Tangerine Terror, the Orange Tyrant just became president of the world’s last super power.  But, he wants to move ‘Merica back to the 50’s, when the African Americans dealt with segregation (and didn’t take the white males jobs) and women were kept in the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant (and didn’t take the white males jobs) and the Mexicans were still in Mexico (and didn’t take white males jobs).  He’s going to stop Muslims from entering America, and even deport some (so they can’t have the white male jobs) … well shit, guess who voted for him.  The white vote brought Trump in.  Looking at the exit polls, white men (and women) under 40 and lower educated voted in this monster.  It’s so clear now.  Hillary is the epitome of the political establishment.  She’s wealthy, white, and powerful and likely corrupt.  That’s what you kind of expect of politicians and a whole bunch of Americans said ENOUGH!

I get that you want change, you want big sweeping impactful change … but you just brought in this centuries evil war monger to make change.  You put a big spike down the middle of your country of hate and fear and terror … and somehow you’re supposed to just pick yourself up and carry on like nothing is wrong.

I’m sorry United States of America, I’m sorry it had to get this bad, that you truly had to hit rock bottom.  I hope you can heal, I hope you don’t end up destroying yourselves and I’ll just be here with a cold beer, warm poutine and a refugee center for my newly persecuted American friends.

So THIS is what it feels like … cool!

Ok, I’ll admit it, for the past 6-ish years I’ve had major “head of the country” envy toward the USA.  I was fascinated when Obama ran for the first time as I’d lament that our elections are so boring because it was always, this old white guy versus this old white guy versus this old white French guy.   While the USA was voting in their first African-American President; ground breaking considering that less than a few centuries ago, he may have been a slave.  So cool, well done USA!

Ohhhhhhh how the tables have turned!  Now we have the panda bear hugging, feminist, cool hottie leading our country.  The entire world is in love with him.  He takes selfies with supporters; his wife is French and BEAUTIFUL.  He’s effectively keeping his kids out of the major spotlight (my momma bear truly loves him for that) while he’s being treated like a rock star by the Americans.  In his political, polite and Canadian way, when asked about Donald Trump, he states “Canada will work with whoever the Americans choose as their leader” … but you can almost hear him whisper after “oh good god don’t vote in that buffoon”.  

This just boggles my mind.

In case you haven’t heard, Toronto has had some trouble … apparently we should call it “antics” with its Mayor. Rob Ford has been an outspoken (loud mouth) bigger than life (how’d that weight loss challenge go there Mr. Mayor?) rule breaking (oh texting and driving, DUI in Florida, accusations of improper fund raising, libeling a business, getting wasted at charity fund raisers, accused of smoking CRACK COCAINE) joy of a political figure for Toronto. He’s got an agenda, apparently to stop the gorging at the public trough, gravy train style politics in Toronto, but apparently he also has lies, broken promises, deception and drug use on that agenda.


While it doesn’t amaze me that people with big egos falter, and even lie and cover up their transgressions, it’s the blatant blindness of the people of Toronto to either forgive him or simply not care that an absolute TRAIN WRECK of a person is running the largest city in CANADA!

Holy crap people … SERIOUSLY?!?!?!?!?!?!

He was just FIRED from his VOLUNTEER coaching job from a local high school, because they were sick of being tainted with his stupidity, but there seems to be a good lot of people in Toronto that still think he’s doing an A-OK job!

Let me be VERY clear. I do not live in Toronto, and if I did, I wouldn’t have voted for this joker in the first place. Yep, call me elitist, but I think our public servants should be held to AT LEAST the standards of your average worker or soccer mom, not this insanely out of control lunatic.

It’s a shame Intervention was cancelled, Ford would have been a top rated show!
